Alberta is an older inner-city neighborhood in Portland, Oregon and its inhabitants are artsy, liberal and community-minded. A staple of this community is the Co-op Grocery and its Farmer's Market. After getting to understand the energy and culture of this neighborhood and the co-op itself, we sought to communicate on their terms. Messages invoking Yoko Ono, Jerry Garcia and mushrooms (it's a farmer's market!) and poking fun at Republicans .. anything progressive would fly. The aim was to awareness for the co-op and the better quality food available there. Guy Ragnetti, Traci Ball, copy; me design and copy.
Posters were done on recycled paper and hung at other local businesses and community centers, such as the library, as well as in-store. Some were stolen.
Bottom: To promote the Farmer's Market and the fresh, organic food found there, we also created an ambient/experiential piece involving a plastic ear of corn dropped on sidewalks in front of nearby corporate grocery stores.
